Splunk puts on its headlamp and dives into VMware's depths
Strengths
Splunk App for VMware brings virtual environments under the
same kinds of logging, monitoring, trending, planning and security
controls Splunk has long offered to other realms of IT.
Weaknesses
Although the company has worked hard to build its offerings out,
it's still frequently derided as merely log search.
Opportunities
VMware environments are growing daily, and daily becoming more
difficult and complicated to manage. Tools to simplify
administrators' lives are considered well worth the money.
Threats
VMware has already acquired Integrien to address its weaknesses
around forensics and trending, and Cetas and Log Insight to shore
up its analytics story. The virtualization giant won't give up without
a fight
